General description:
This module drives DC Motors with current up to 12A continuous, the module includes a full MCU (Motion Control Unit), with up to 3 general inputs, software configurable to be limits, home or encoder index, plus 2 dedicated encoder inputs.
The driver output current is chopped limited to safety values to protect the motor, the driver and power supply from shorts and overloads.
The MCU accepts parameters from a remote PC through a fast property serial communication link, completely implemented in hardware, and therefore transparent to the software.
Up to 64 modules can be daisy chinned to one master interface board on PC or to one master controller serial interface to a PC or PLC serial link.
Operates from a single power supply within a wide range of voltages.
The MCU included in module accelerates the according to the parameters, until the motor reaches the motion end event requested.. This MCU performs an hardware closed loop digital position control.
The controlled motor will move until a certain encoder position count, or an home/marc µSwitch. When this end event is reached the MCU can be programmed to hold the position or to simply stop the motion.
Parameters allow versatile flexibility to accommodate almost any motor-machine acceleration curve.
The 24 bit quadrature encoder circuitry included can be incremented with resolutions of 1,2 or 4 times each encoder cycle.
Two limits µSW are also included. This µSW can be programmed to cut off the power when reached.
The driver is fully protected for over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature. Full feedback is provided to the application software.
The technology used allow this high power driver including the full MCU and full hardware communication to fit in small 6.7 x 11.0 x 2.1 cm module (GLOSDC size) commonly with no need for heatsink...
Finally this module has been design to provide a full solution for perfectly controlled servo closed loop DC-motors based motion, in conjunction with the other modules in its family they provides a full solution for any automation and robotics control system, with better control, less wiring, less noise, very robust, very small, very reliable, and low cost intelligent modules.
